Zamboanga Alert

I have a fear of loud sounds. That includes fear of hearing shouts. It’s alright if I am prepared for it like when I see a lightning first then comes a thunder. I can’t get over it. Sometimes, I imagine a sound of a minor bomb explosion for a coconut fruit that falls down the roof.

Two weeks ago, while we were in Zamboanga, I heard a loud sound. It was a siren heard all over the city. I was frightened. I thought of it as an emergency warning. I was wrong. The siren, I realized, was being played at 8:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. This was being done since time immemorial. So, you’ll never be late in reporting for work and in having your lunch break.

I gained a sumptuous lunch from friends. No more fear!
